Cricketers decide on their executive

21/08/2008 8:53:00 AM
The Lithgow District Cricket Association recently held its annual meeting with all positions for the executive filled without opposition.

A total of 14 delegates attended the meeting with a further three apologies.

Danny Whitty will once again act as president for the 2008-09 season, while Darren King and Mark Wren were elected to the respective positions of senior vice president and junior vice president.

Michael Brown once again took on the twin responsibilities of secretary and treasurer and will also provide his services as public officer.

Brian Slaven will again be the Association’s records officer, while the Sports Council delegates will be Danny Whitty, Russell Blanchard and Grahame Danaher.

Delegates to the Mitchell Cricket Council will be Michael Brown, Mark Wren and Danny Whitty.

The Association’s auditor will be John Buckley, while publicity for the season will be in the hands of Brian Slaven and Michael Brown.

An under 21 committee was also formed and comprises Anthony Brown, Danny Whitty and Mark Wren.

Mark Roots and Darren King form the wet weather committee while Dave Hartley, Michael Brown, Owen Bulkeley, Mick Wren and Mark Wren will form the rules committee.

The Bonnor Cup and Presidents Cup Carnival positions were held in abeyance for a future meeting.

The Association’s healthy financial situation was outlined for the meeting.

The meeting then dissolved into general business with a number of items discussed.

Fees for the season were set and will comprise a $10 membership fee per person, a $550 team nomination fee for each team, an umpire fee of $150 per club and a presentation night fee of $200 per club.

It was also decided that the grading rule be reviewed before the commencement of the season because it was deemed to be confusing in past seasons.

Saturday October 11 was set down as the official date for the senior cricket season to start, with the final match before Christmas to be played on December 13.

The sight screens on Conran Oval were also discussed and work on them will be completed before the start of play.

There was also discussion of the under 21 competition with suggestions made that an under 19 competition would be more viable.

This will be broached with Mitchell Cricket Council, as there are not enough local players to sustain such a competition in the Lithgow region.

Queries were also made as to the format of the competition for the season and whether first and second grades would be combined.

This will be determined at future meetings on team numbers and nominations.

The next meeting of the Association will be held early next month.
