The Lithgow Primary Schoolboys’ basketballers are to play in the finals for the Western Area title after winning the Eastern Division knockout.
This is the third year in a row Lithgow Primary, under the coaching of Julie Newham, has made the Western finals.
They took out the title in 2006 and were very unlucky not to do so last year.
The LPS boys first game was against Cooerwull and they came away with a resounding 76-14 win.
Ben Newham showed his class and dominated all over the court, giving some fantastic passes and scoring a well deserved 44 points.
Riley Swift was great with his fast breaks and defence.
Chad Osland showed his speed around the court and his defence was terrific against more experienced players.
New basketballers Jordan Ticehurst, Tristian Lester, Eric Joyce and Corey Keating all game great support and never stopped trying.
LPS played Wang in the final and again were comfortable winners 72-17.
Ben Newham again had an outstanding game with Riley Swift and Chad Osland putting in top performances.
Jordan Ticehurst played very well with strong rebounding and defence.
Eric Joyce, Tristan Lester and Corey Keating all hustled well.
The win was more noteworthy considering the team only came together days before the knockout.
The LPS girls played Cooerwull in the first game, but Cooerwull were too strong.
The girls played Wang in the playoffs and came away with a two point win.
Keely Newham was strong in both games.
Katie Wilkins defended well, Holly Gibbons scored some good baskets, while Caitlan Young and Emma Guffog tried hard.
The Lithgow Primary School wishes the boys all the best in the finals at Bathurst this week.
